About the Company
BuildWorks Canada is a leading business development and procurement website supported by local construction associations across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Acting as a centralized gateway, it aggregates project information and documentation for both public and private construction initiatives.
The company approached us with a critical challenge: their previous site was outdated, and confusing for users. With millions of dollars in project value dependent on external partner systems linked from their portal, clarity and usability were top priorities. Their stakeholders — including contractors, suppliers, and association members — struggled to find the right resources efficiently.
A unique aspect of BuildWorks is its deep regional connection and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). We emphasized using local imagery, spotlighting regional companies, and maintaining accessible design standards for all user groups.
OBJECTIVES:
- Modernize the visual design while respecting existing user habits
- Streamline complex navigation structures
- Improve load speed and mobile usability
- Implement a self-serve advertising system with payment processing
- Centralize access to multiple third-party tools and documents
- Reinforce DEI and local representation throughout the design

In under three months, our team collaborated with the various stakeholders — including representatives from major construction associations — to deliver a fully redesigned WordPress website. The new portal balanced familiar user flows with upgraded UX, helping users locate key project documentation faster.
Our team also introduced a robust self-managed advertising system that allows users to purchase ad space, upload creative, and manage campaigns — all without leaving the site. Supporting this was a custom-built branding toolkit to ensure visual consistency across linked third-party services.

Bringing IT All Together
BuildWorks Canada came to Digital Tea with a critical need: to re-establish trust in their digital platform by improving structure, usability, and performance. Their former website hindered user experience and obscured access to essential tools and information.
Our approach began with in-depth UX planning and stakeholder meetings to understand key user pathways. From there, we designed a flexible mega menu and standard header navigation system to accommodate multiple user types. This allowed us to maintain familiar entry points while modernizing the structure.
Digital Tea team implemented and configured a top notch banner ad management system — enabling advertisers to purchase placements, select durations, and upload creatives in one seamless flow. Payment processing and ad approvals were integrated directly into the admin experience.
The visual direction focused on showcasing local construction imagery and promoting DEI principles. On the technical side, our team optimized performance through image compression, code streamlining, and improved caching protocols.
Working with a highly organized client team (Thanks Sarah A.) made it possible to launch within three months. The platform now operates as a strong digital front-end to a decentralized network of third-party tools, elevating both the brand presence and user satisfaction. Future plans include expansion of the advertising module and deeper integrations with association systems.
